  • Maybe you are an exercise or movement professional already working with pregnant people and are ready to refine your skills to include more yoga?

  • Maybe you are a midwife, doula, or another type of perinatal provider that would like to include more mindfulness and movement tools into your practice?

Whoever you are, you are likely tired of old paradigms that emphasize a singular narrative around pregnancy, birth and postpartum. And you're ready to help widen your understanding of birth, through the lens of social justice, gender inclusivity, and trauma informed care. This training will broaden your understanding of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Our Beliefs & Values

At Next Wave we recognize that each individual who joins our training has their own story and way of moving through the world. We believe that having these varied perspectives generates better ideas, deeper learning, and greater connection. We seek to engage, understand and draw upon a variety of life experiences and perspectives, both from guest teachers and our trainees themselves. We strive to teach comprehensive, evidence based practices of movement, breathwork and mindfulness to support a diversity of bodies and life experiences. And along the journey, we build a community of healers and change makers upon a foundation of respect and dignity. Next Wave Teachers value:

  • Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga & Movement

Our training includes a comprehensive map of what happens during pregnancy and how movement and breath can be a resource to support the changing body, prepare for birth and heal postpartum. Our approach goes beyond the definitive guidelines to help teachers understand the complexity and nuance of a pregnant and postpartum person.

  • Mindfulness & Compassion

Next Wave trainings are rooted in practices of self-study, mindfulness and compassion because we believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give as movement practitioners is to support pregnant folks and ourselves in noticing, naming and being with.

  • Safer Spaces

We recognize that the culture in the U.S. is steeped in white supremacist ideals, patriarchal beliefs and is heterosexist. We have seen how these systems of oppression affect people in their journey into parenthood. We are committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression in the birth, and yoga and movement worlds. We know all gender identities can grow and birth babies, not just women. We are proud to be a part of the cultural movement to make the birth world more expansive.

You are the ship. There is no captain. There are only waves.”

Our Birth Story

Next Wave Birth was born when three humans who have a deep love and reverence for yoga, movement and the time around pregnancy, birth and postpartum came together. Shana had been offering prenatal and postpartum classes and teacher trainings for years when she felt like the stream she was following could be a more powerful river. Shana, Margot and Megan created Next Wave to offer a different narrative rooted in trauma-informed care and gender inclusivity. We saw that together we could make more waves. We all found our way onto this path differently and offer a multi-disciplinary approach to supporting people through their birthing and postpartum years. We are united in our desire to help people feel empowered, informed, seen and held during this unique and transformative time of life. Let’s make waves!

Over 40 years of collective experience in the
