Our Beliefs and Values guide and inform our curriculum. We want you to come out of this training feeling prepared to lead prenatal and postpartum yoga & movement classes & to be primed for the on going growth and learning that naturally occurs as you start teaching.

When you complete this training, you will walk away with the following core competencies:

 

Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga & Movement

  • You will have a deeper knowledge of yoga and pregnancy, beyond the "do's and don'ts" of prenatal yoga

  • Practical teaching metholodgy, including sequencing of poses, language and cueing awareness, class templates and lesson plans, common modifications, integrating themes and educational components into your classes

  • Understand common pregnancy and postpartum discomforts and issues and how to address them in a group class, such as: diastasis recti, incontinence, prolapse, SI joint dysfunction, symphysis pubis dysfunction, pelvic floor pain, hemorrhoids, back pain, vulvar varicosities, carpal tunnel syndrome, heartburn and acid reflux and more

  • Know about the stages and terminology of pregnancy, birth and postpartum

  • Have working knowledge of functional, in-depth anatomy, structural alignment and how it relates to pelvic floor and core support during pregnancy and postpartum

  • Understand the concept of optimal fetal position and how to integrate that awareness into class

  • Feel confident to support students physically, mentally and emotionally throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum within a class setting

  • Learn about how to prepare students for birth and heal from both pelvic and surgical births

  • The basics of using yoga to assist with fertility


Mindfulness
&
Compassion

  • Feel confident in your ability to navigate the dynamic experience of leading group classes

  • Be able to address biopsychosocial needs of people during pregnancy and postpartum and formulate classes to support them

  • Understand your role as teacher, your scope of practice and ethics of teaching yoga to perinatal populations

  • Offer trauma-sensitive classes to minimize the impact of trauma and offer a space of healing

  • Understand the importance of svadhyaya, self-study and self awareness, as a yoga and movement teacher

  • Develop awareness of common physical, emotional and mental needs of the perinatal population, including perinatal mood disorders


Safer Spaces

  • Have a general understanding of structural, systemic and interpersonal oppression and its impact on pregnancy, birth and postpartum

  • Be able to identify and address how intersectional barriers may impact students, and have tools to mitigate its impact

  • Offer classes that aim to be inclusive of all gender identities and expressions

  • Know and understand your local community and resources to support your students

The training begins January 2025

it will take place in-person & online over a three month period with 3 in-person intensive long weekends in SE portland, oregon at the beginning, middle, and the end and weekly zoom sessions on Fridays

IN PERSON IN SE PORTLAND Fall 2025:

The in person learning occurs over three weekends with self guided study in between our sessions together. Friday night sessions will be 5:30pm-8:00pm & Saturday and Sunday will be 9am-4:30pm with a one hour lunch each day.

Pregnancy: September 19th-21st, 2025

Birth: October 17th-19th, 2025

Postpartum: November 14th-16th, 2025

 

Our training is 85+ hours that will include the following elements:

20 hours of self paced learning

15 hours of class observation

5 hours of practice teaching
